D-land B-day.

The morning of Vs birthday we surprised her with a visit to Disneyland. She got to meet a few of her favorite princesses, eat a couple beignets + churros, and got to pick out one new toy while she was there (she chose a Woody doll). We happened into some unbelievable luck once when princess Merida (her all-time fave) quickly walked past on the way to her (60 minute wait!) line. She must've noticed how star struck Ivy was, because she grabbed her hand, walked her to a shaded area for hugs, and continued to have a 5 minute conversation with her all about her birthday. As they were pinky-promising to be "Best Friends Forever" and telling each other they loved one another, I noticed Ivy was holding back one single, giant, happy tear that later streamed down her face. It was the funniest and sweetest thing ever. Geoff and I may have even teared up a bit ourselves, too-- it was cheesier than any Disneyland commercial you've ever seen. We felt particularly lucky when she coldly shot down the inevitable line of kids that formed behind us during their visit, talk about being in the right place at the right time!  That was definitely the highlight of the day. After our Merida encounter, we took a breather at our close by hotel and were able to sneak in a nap for Lola, grab dinner (and of course embarrass Ivy by singing 'Happy Birthday' with the waiters) and headed straight back for a nighttime Nemo ride and of course, the parade. I've never been much of a Disneyland person if I'm being honest, but seeing how enchanted the girls were this time around made it for me. I hope she felt as special on her big day as she is to us, we love our little 3 year old princess-lover to peices.

I think 3 is the perfect age to take a little girl to Disneyland. We took our daughter there for her 3rd birthday and have been back 3 more times since then. {She turned 4 last month and we are kinda sorta your neighbors here in Chandler so it's not like we are just down the street from the Happiest Place on Earth.} We keep trying to relive the magic of that first visit and although that hasn't exactly happened, it is always so much fun to experience everything Disneyland has to offer through her eyes. And, yeah, my husband and I totally teared up too every time she met a princess or Mickey Mouse character!
