2/10/12

We built this Schmidt-y on tootsie roooolllls.

Judging by my awkward maternity pose, it's clear that I have never really taken a maternity picture before, and it's definitely for good reason. I am not one of those girls who rock being pregnant, and I've never really understood how they do it. (I wish I was fishing for compliments rather than just stating the obvious, but sadly...I'm not.) In fact, if I had to pick three things off the top of my head that keep me up at night (besides getting up to pee every 2 hours of course) they would be:
1. Why Mason Kardashian wears band-aids on his face
2. Why men have nipples
3. And how some girls can look so awesome while pregnant

Anyway, I wish I was one of those women with the cute soccer-ball-bellies who you look at and say, "Aww, you're all baby, I couldn't even tell you were pregnant from behind!" However, I'm more like all baby, plus all booty, plus a whoooole-lotta pie-face wrapped in wrinkly jersey-knit fabric. It's really too bad, but I figure my kids might want to see me in this state regardless, so I better suck up my insecurities and take a quick picture every few weeks. I also thought it'd be fun (for lack of a better word) to jot down a few things to remember about this stage in my pregnancy, so here we go:

1. My belly got so much bigger so much faster this time around. I tell myself I'm about halfway through so how much bigger can I get? But then I quickly remember that I'm only halfway through, and I can get a whole lot bigger. Ruh-oh!
2. I'm almost out of the clear of sick mornings and nights, taking Zofran this pregnancy was a slam-dunk!
3. I am a freaking carnivore. When Geoff asked me for gift ideas for Valentines Day, I legitimately told him that all I wanted was a steak from Flemings. I've never even had a steak from Flemings. In fact, I've never really ordered any type of red meat from any restaurant up until now. Pregnancy, man!
4. I am quickly remembering how hard it is to dress when you have an 'old-man-gut' to work with. I am still at the point where wearing shamelessly tight and hideous outfits seem better than surrendering to maternity clothes, cause I just can't bring myself to pull out that plastic bag of panel jeans out from the depths of my closet.
5. This pregnancy is seriously flying by. I never thought I'd say that, but I feel like with your 2nd you're just more... distracted? When women have their 3rd/4th/5th child, do they even have time to realize they're pregnant until they're due? Maybe that's a stupid question.

Either way, I forget how much you can fall in love with something whose heartbeat you've only heard and who you can only compare to the size of a ______ (insert fruit). But you do. And it's crazy! And it makes all those red-meat craving, toilet-hugging, back-aching, teenage-acne-filled days worth it and more.

We love you so much, little baby.

i am so glad i am not the only one out there who just plain doesnt look good while pregnant (although that picture you look good...sooo i am thinking you are lying!). I am 26 weeks and at this rate i am going to have to insert panels in the thighs of my jeans before too long...

haha I laughed at mason wearing band aids on his face..I was wondering that myself!

Im only 9 weeks and I am as big as I was at 18 weeks right now. I am beyond terrified how big I am going to get. I'm thinking we might need to do maternity pics at 20 weeks?? That way I can save some face about how large I am going to be. You look so good!

you look great, are you kidding me? i felt way uglier with my first pregnancy, mainly because i was. what, with the bumpy forehead, unmanageable hair and fast weight gain, i remember thinking "so this is what i would look like if i just "gave up" on myself.

when i got pregnant this time, number 4 on my to-do list was - "renew license before you get a fat face"

a week ago (at 6 months pregnant) i lied on the couch and uttered "i just long for my old body" which sounded so odd that i said it again just to make sure i heard myself right.

anyway, you look lovely! xx

Ha, baby belly my eye. Mine's that big and my baby is almost 2!! You look great, definitely not almost half way, I didn't even realize!

Mason fell out of a car and tore his face all up and had to go to a plastic surgeon to fix him all up. the band aids are like pulling his skin back together. i googled it because every episode was driving me nuts! and your pregnant belly is cute, not bad at all!

Boys have nipples because everyone starts out a girl in the womb for the first little while, that is until an extra chromosome decides to come along or not.
Also, man nipples have some use, they can lactate...it is VERY rare but it's possible.

BTW. I love your blog! :)

come on....his name is Mason Disick. what kind of kktny/kuwtk/kktm/kl fan are you, anyway?

You look cute pregnant. I look hideous pregnant with both kids. I totally wish I was one of those "ALL BABY" women and that I can get my body back only weeks after delivery.
I do wonder the same thing though when you're working on kid number 3/4/or 5. Maybe someday I will know, I would like a child number 3, but right now a 15 month old boy and a 4 year old girl keeps me on my toes!

Jenna said...

First of all, yes m'am, you are totally cute. And don't forget it.

Second: when I was pregnant with my first, I was so excited to wear maternity jeans (WHY?!) and then quickly figured out how awful they are. Then with #2 I was rocking the rubberbanded jeans for a super long time. Like 6 months. I refused to give in!

When I switched to maternity clothes with Eloise I was like- WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG? I felt like a new woman that could fit in clothes and breathe normally.
Anyway, I would just like to say that you look a whole lot cuter pregnant than I do not pregnant... And I wish I was fishing for a compliment too. :/

i agree with everyone else - you're darn cute pregnant & are crazy for thinking otherwise! :)

I'm pregnant with our second as well (ivy and my little girl are pretty close in age) and YES it goes by so much faster. With your first, you're like counting down the days, reading all sorts of info, thinking about your belly and baby NONSTOP. With your second I'm like "woah, i'm 16 weeks. where did the time go?!"
I like it MUCH better that way though.

I'm already losing the maternity clothes battle. It's just too comfortable to wear the old belly panels than it is to be in pain but looks cute. Function over fashion, baby.

I'm totally one of those people who looks all pregnant face too. I'll actually go into it for a while ok and then like 24 weeks hits and boom. Oh and I still hadn't lost all that first pregnancy booty either - so that added. You still look great! At 19 weeks with my second I was FOR SURE in maternity jeans.

The pregnancy goes much faster! I think it was actually a little more uncomfortable than the first - that Braxton Hicks started EARLY - but I didn't have even close to everything ready when baby girl #2 decided she had to come at 39 weeks. Now she's here and 8 months old (how?) and it's very very worth it ;) I never did the pregnancy pictures either though :p

I'm 14 weeks along and you are sure rockin' it cuter than I am! I'm a wuss. I already succomed to elastic waisted jeggings and busted out a pair of maternity pants. The whole hair band around the jeans things was just getting annoying. Plus, comfort is paramount. Best wishes with #2!

That's not a cute soccer ball belly? HA! I'm a week ahead of you. I'll be posting a photo on twitter later since today's February photo a day prompt is self-portrait. I'll show you "all belly!" My name there is splendidmissm. Look for it and you'll feel MUCH better. :)

1. i'm not sure why mason rocks those band-aids, but my mom has tons of pictures with me doing the same thing. must be a baby thing.
2. men having nipples is a very funny concept.
3. you are definitely rockin' the baby bump. work it girl!! oh, and love your hair. fact.

I think you pull of preggers pretty well. I am kinda jealous. And I also wonder, why does Mason always wear those bandaids? I wish they would just come out and address the awkward elephant in the room. seriously.

You look great! Please tell me you didn't have morning sickness until 19 weeks. I am 10 weeks now, and can't picture only eating bagels, waffles and crackers for another 9 weeks (wah!)

You are utterly adorable, and I'm afraid to say that at 10 weeks I have the same belly. It is probably due to all those carbs.. (I did find out that I'm having twins though.. that was a shocker!)

I can't wait to have the "glow" people talk about, but right now I'm rocking the teenage acne as best I can.
